The principal body that governs Telecommunication Laws in India is the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This Authority has been set up in 1997 by the Act of the Parliament for regulation of telecom services in order to ensure that there exists a fair and a transparent system which will help in promoting fair competition in the telecom sector. It also aims at promoting socio-economic development of citizens of India by regulation of Telecom services.
